Frequent door opening or prolonged open door, warm food stored inside, or food touching the interior rear wall

Ensure the door is closed properly, store only cooled food, and avoid food contact with the rear wall

Freezer door is difficult to open

Temperature difference between the room and the internal compartment

Wait 5 minutes for the external and internal pressure to equalize and try opening again

Continuous operation of the compressor

The door may have been opened frequently or left open for a long period

Ensure the door is closed properly and minimize door opening frequency

Initial Preparation

Before connecting the Hotpoint HM311i Refrigerator to the mains electricity supply, leave the appliance to stand for 2 hours. This allows the cooling system to settle. During this time, clean the appliance thoroughly, especially the interior.

Choose a location where the refrigerator can be easily accessed. Ensure that the power socket is in a readily accessible position adjacent to the unit.

Ventilation Requirements

At the base of the kitchen unit intended for the appliance, ensure there is at least 200cm² of free space for adequate air circulation. Do not cover the air outlet grille at the top of the appliance.

The Hotpoint HM311i Refrigerator has some known problems that occur often. Here are some easy to do solutions for the problems or error codes your Hotpoint might be giving you.

Refrigerator interior light does not work

The interior light of the refrigerator fails to illuminate when the door is opened. Switch off the appliance at the socket and pull out the main plug. Check if the bulb is screwed in correctly. If the light still does not work, replace the bulb with a maximum 15-watt 220-240V alternating current E14 lampholder bulb from the nearest Spares Centre.

Ice formation on the interior rear wall

Ice builds up on the interior rear wall of the refrigerator, which may affect cooling efficiency. Refer to the 'Manual defrosting of the Refrigerator' section to properly defrost the unit and eliminate ice buildup.

The appliance won’t work

The refrigerator does not operate at all when plugged in. Ensure the plug is firmly positioned in the wall socket and the power supply is switched on. Verify the power supply by testing another appliance. Check the fuse and replace if necessary. If there was a power failure, wait for the power to be restored.

Installation Requirements

The Hotpoint HM311i Refrigerator must be installed by a qualified electrician. It should fit into a tall kitchen unit with proper ventilation, ensuring a 200cm2 free space at the base for air circulation. The power socket should be easily accessible.

This refrigerator comes with a 13A fuse and must be earthed. If replacing the fuse, only use one rated at 13A and ASTA approved to BS1362 standards.

Foods should be properly packed to prevent drying and odor transfer. Avoid storing warm food, and ensure food or packaging does not touch the interior rear wall.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Clean the condenser on the rear wall occasionally with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. Use warm, soapy water for the door seal, and dry it thoroughly. Do not use detergent on the door seal.

Warranty and Service

The appliance includes a 12-month parts and labor guarantee. For the first 5 years, free replacement parts are available if fitted by a Hotpoint engineer.
