Troubleshooting

The Hotpoint RFA80 Refrigerator has some known problems that occur often. Here are some easy to do solutions for the problems or error codes your Hotpoint might be giving you.

Amber Fast Freeze Light

Indicates that the fast freeze button has been pressed, causing the freezer motor to run continuously for extra cooling. This is normal when you want to quickly freeze items. Remember to turn it off after 24 hours; however, it will automatically cancel after 48 hours if you forget.

Amber Holiday Light (Models RFA80 & RFA70 only)

Indicates that the holiday mode is set, allowing the fridge compartment to be set to a warmer setting while you are away to reduce running costs. To cancel, press the holiday button or open the fridge door to return the fridge freezer to normal operation.

Red High Temperature Warning Light

Comes on when the freezer is first switched on or when the temperature inside the compartment rises above the correct storage temperature. If just installed or loaded with a large quantity of food, this is normal and the light will go out when the correct temperature is reached. If it stays on, check the troubleshooting section.

Installation Requirements

Position the fridge freezer away from heat sources like cookers and radiators. Ensure a 100mm (4 inch) gap above the appliance for proper ventilation to enhance its performance and lifespan.

Temperature Settings

Use the control wheel to adjust temperature: clockwise for colder, anti-clockwise for warmer. The normal setting is usually marked by a 3 on the dial.

Storage Tips

Avoid placing food in direct contact with the fridge's interior back wall. Keep foods covered to retain moisture and prevent flavor transfer.

Maintenance Advice

Regularly check the defrost gutter drain hole to prevent blockages. A thick layer of ice increases running costs, so defrost when ice is 3-5mm thick.

Service & Guarantee

Hotpoint offers a 12-month parts and labor guarantee, with free replacement parts for the first 5 years if fitted by a Hotpoint engineer.

Safety Precautions

The cooling system contains a small amount of environmentally friendly but flammable gas. Do not use a mercury-filled thermometer due to health hazards if broken.

Fast Freeze Function

Use the Fast Freeze button to freeze fresh food quickly. Turn it off after 24 hours, or it will automatically cancel after 48 hours.

Holiday Mode

Available on RFA80 & RFA70 models. Use this to set the fridge to a warmer setting during holidays to reduce running costs without affecting the freezer.

Troubleshooting

If the freezer door is difficult to open, it might be due to its tight seal. Consult the troubleshooting section before seeking service advice.

Location & Installation

Choose a spot for your fridge freezer away from heat sources such as cookers and radiators. Ensure there is at least a 100mm (4 inch) gap above the fridge for proper ventilation. This will prolong the lifespan of your appliance.

Safety Precautions

Ventilation

Ensure ventilation openings are clear of obstructions to avoid overheating and ensure efficient operation of the fridge freezer.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Regularly clean the door seals with warm water and a soft cloth. Avoid using detergents as they can damage the seals. Keep the defrost gutter drain hole clear to prevent water accumulation.
