Quick setup

Follow these easy steps to get your Hotpoint RLA51 Refrigerator up and running in no time.

1

Choose a Location

Select a site for your fridge that is away from heat sources such as cookers and radiators. Ensure there's a minimum of 100mm (4 inches) between the top of the fridge and any overhead obstructions like cupboards or ceilings.

2

Allow for Ventilation

Ensure there is a 30mm (1 1/4 inch) gap above the fridge for proper ventilation. This helps in prolonging the life of the appliance and reduces operating sounds caused by vibration.

3

Avoid Damaging Refrigerant Pipes

Take care to avoid damaging the refrigerant circuit pipe work on the rear of the fridge, which is crucial for the cooling system.

Eco-Friendly Engineering

Hotpoint fridges, including the RLA and RLM series, are made with quality recycled components to keep costs low and minimize waste. Go green with your groceries!

Buzzing Beauties

These fridges might make a little noise, but that's just their hardworking motors doing their thing. It's the sound of fresh food right at your fingertips!

Installation Location & Air Circulation

Locate your fridge away from sources of heat such as cookers, radiators, or direct sunlight as extreme temperatures will affect its performance. Allow a minimum of 100mm (4 inches) between the top of the fridge and the ceiling or the underside of a wall cupboard. This helps prolong the life of the fridge.

Safety & Installation

Equal height Hotpoint fridges and freezers can be joined together to look like one unit by using a Filler Kit available from Hotpoint Genuine Parts & Accessories. It is important to properly connect to a suitable electrical supply voltage as stated on the appliance rating plate. Avoid damaging the refrigerant circuit pipe work on the rear.

Automatic Defrosting

No manual defrosting is required. The fridge compartment will defrost automatically. During defrost periods, water droplets form on the interior back wall of your Larder Fridge and refreeze afterwards.

Changing the Light Bulb

Switch off the electricity supply and pull out the mains plug before changing the bulb. Remove any shelves directly below the interior light to make access easier. Obtain a replacement SES 15 watt bulb from Hotpoint Genuine Parts and fit accordingly.

Safety Precautions

The fridge cooling system contains a small amount of environmentally friendly but flammable gas. Follow installation instructions carefully, ensuring ventilation openings are clear of obstruction. Do not use mechanical or electrical devices inside the fridge for manual defrosting.

Getting Started

To ensure that your fridge runs reliably and efficiently, choose a location away from any heat sources and allow adequate ventilation, with a 30mm (11/4 inch) gap above. Before plugging in and switching on, leave the fridge standing in its final location for at least 15 minutes to allow it to settle.

Temperature Control

The control wheel on the front of the worktop adjusts the internal fridge compartment temperature. The internal temperature should be 5˚C or colder, although some sections, such as the salad bin, will be slightly warmer. Adjust the temperature by turning the control wheel clockwise for colder or anti-clockwise for warmer settings.

Noise Levels

The fridge motor (compressor) makes a buzzing or humming sound when it is running, which is normal. This can be louder when it is first switched on. Expansion and contraction of parts inside the fridge can produce a cracking noise as they rapidly change temperature.

Service & Guarantee

All Hotpoint appliances have a fully inclusive parts and labour guarantee for the first 12 months. Free replacement parts are available for the first 5 years when fitted by a Hotpoint engineer. After the 12 months parts and labour guarantee expires, Hotpoint offers various after sales service options.

Maintenance

Check out our tips to prevent many common issues and extend the life of your Hotpoint Refrigerator.

Proper Location Selection

Choose a location for your fridge away from any heat sources and ensure adequate ventilation with at least a 30mm (1 1/4 inch) gap above.

Avoiding Interior Contact

Ensure that stored food does not come into contact with the interior back wall of your Larder Fridge to prevent rapid ice buildup.

Regular Cleaning of Defrost Drain

Keep the defrost gutter drain hole clear of any blockage. Use a straw for cleaning the drain hole to prevent water accumulation beneath the salad bin and on the floor.

Switch Off Before Cleaning

Always switch off the electrical supply and pull out the mains plug before cleaning. Use a clean soft cloth and warm water for cleaning surfaces.

Handling the Fridge

Take care when installing or moving the fridge to avoid damaging the pipes on the rear. Ensure the mains cable is not trapped underneath or behind the fridge.
