Troubleshooting

The Hotpoint RLA84 Refrigerator has some known problems that occur often. Here are some easy to do solutions for the problems or error codes your Hotpoint might be giving you.

The fridge will not work

The appliance is not functioning or does not operate when powered on. Ensure that the plug is firmly positioned in the socket outlet and that the power supply is switched on. Check the power supply with another appliance to verify it's working. Inspect the fuse or circuit breaker. Confirm that the fridge door is properly closed.

The interior light doesn’t work

The light inside the refrigerator does not illuminate when the door is opened. Switch off the electricity supply and pull out the mains plug. Check if the bulb is screwed in correctly. If the bulb is faulty, obtain a replacement SES 15 watt bulb from the Hotpoint Genuine Parts and Accessories Mail Order Hotline and replace it.

The temperature is too warm

The internal temperature of the fridge is higher than desired, affecting food preservation. Adjust the control wheel on the front of the worktop to a higher number to lower the temperature. Ensure the fridge is not overfilled, which could obstruct air circulation.

Installation and Location

Choose a location for your Hotpoint RLA84, RLM84 refrigerator away from heat sources such as cookers or radiators to ensure optimal performance. Allow adequate ventilation with at least a 100mm (4 inches) gap above the fridge. The fridge should be positioned so a gap of at least 30mm (1¼ inch) is left at the hinge side of the door to allow easy removal of furniture. Ensure the fridge is securely held in place with the stability bracket to prevent tilting.

Temperature Control

The internal temperature of the fridge should be 5˚C or colder, although some sections like the salad bin may be slightly warmer. Use the control wheel on the front of the worktop to adjust the fridge's temperature. A temperature indicator located on the bottom right-hand side of the refrigerator wall shows whether the fridge compartment is at the correct temperature.

Microban® Technology

The fridge incorporates Microban® antibacterial technology, which is built into the interior components to protect against the growth of potentially harmful bacteria on the surfaces, keeping the fridge fresher and more hygienically clean. This technology is safe, durable, and effective, providing continuous protection throughout the fridge's life.

Safety and Precautions

Do not use any mechanical or electrical devices inside the fridge for defrosting as they may cause damage. Avoid storing poisonous, flammable, or dangerous substances in the fridge, and do not use aerosol sprays for defrosting or cleaning.

Hotpoint offers a fully inclusive parts and labor guarantee for the first 12 months and free replacement parts for the first 5 years when fitted by a Hotpoint engineer. The after sales service is available 364 days a year with over 1100 trained specialists in the UK.

Electrical Connection

Ensure the refrigerator is properly connected to a suitable electrical supply voltage as stated on the appliance rating plate. The appliance must be earthed, and care should be taken to prevent the mains cable from being trapped underneath or behind the fridge during installation or movement.

Storage Zones

The fridge includes different storage zones. The 'Cool' zone is suitable for storing dairy products, cheese, butter, margarine, low-fat spreads, cooking fats/lards, and preserves such as jam, curd, marmalade, spread, salad dressing, or sauces.

Automatic Defrost

The Hotpoint RLA84, RLM84 refrigerator features an automatic defrosting system. During defrost periods, water droplets form on the interior back wall of the fridge and refreeze afterwards, eliminating the need for manual defrosting.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Switch off the electrical supply and unplug the fridge before cleaning. Use a straw to keep the defrost gutter drain hole clear. Avoid using detergents that can damage the seal and ensure the fridge is clean according to the recommended maintenance schedule.
