Troubleshooting

The Hoover S1420 Vacuum Cleaner has some known problems that occur often. Here are some easy to do solutions for the problems or error codes your Hoover might be giving you.

Cleaner won’t run

The cleaner is not operating because it might not be firmly plugged in or there is no voltage in the wall plug. Ensure that the cleaner is properly plugged into a working electrical outlet. Check the outlet by plugging in another device to confirm it has power.

Suction low

The suction power of the cleaner is reduced, possibly due to a full bag, a blockage in the nozzle or hose, or a dirty secondary filter. Replace the paper filter bag if it is full. Check for blockages in the nozzle and hose and remove any obstructions. Additionally, clean or replace the secondary filter if it is dirty to restore optimal suction.

Nozzle won’t pick up

The cleaner's nozzle is not effectively picking up debris, which may be caused by a worn nozzle brush. Inspect the nozzle brush for wear and tear. If it appears worn, replace the brush with a new one to ensure effective cleaning performance.

Model Identification

The model number appears on the bottom of the cleaner. Ensure that you fill in and retain the model and serial number for your records, as it may be required for warranty service. Attach your sales receipt to the manual for verification of the purchase date.

Bag Type and Replacement

Use HOOVER bag Type R with this cleaner to ensure peak performance. Only use genuine HOOVER paper filter bags distributed by The Hoover Company. Bags can be purchased from Authorized Hoover Dealers, leading retailers, Hoover Factory Service Centers, or online.

Cleaning Tools

A variety of useful cleaning tools are available for your cleaner, including a crevice tool for tight spaces, corners, and edges. A hard floor tool can be purchased separately.

Service and Support

For approved HOOVER service and genuine HOOVER parts, locate the nearest Hoover Factory Service Center or Authorized Warranty Service Dealer using the provided contact information. Do not send your cleaner to The Hoover Company directly for service.

Cleaning and Storing

To clean the hose and tools, use a cloth dampened with liquid detergent, and allow them to dry thoroughly before use. Store the cleaner by wrapping the cord around it and repositioning tools on the tool rack.

Safety Precautions

Always follow basic safety precautions when using this electrical appliance. Read all instructions before using. Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces. Close supervision is necessary when used by or near children.

Assembly Instructions

Unpack the cleaner from the carton, identify parts, and remove all packing materials. Follow the instructions to assemble the cleaner correctly before use.

Maintenance

To maintain cleaning effectiveness, familiarize yourself with home maintenance tasks. Regularly check and replace the filter bag, and ensure the rug and floor nozzle brushes are in good condition.

Operating Instructions

Operate the cleaner only at the voltage specified on the data plate. Ensure the plug is firmly connected, and do not use a damaged cord or plug. Always unplug by grasping the plug, not the cord.

Problem Solving

If a minor problem occurs, such as the cleaner not running or suction being low, check that the plug is firmly inserted and that there is no blockage in the hose or nozzle. Refer to the checklist for solutions to common issues.
