Troubleshooting

The Hotpoint FFA91 Refrigerator has some known problems that occur often. Here are some easy to do solutions for the problems or error codes your Hotpoint might be giving you.

Flashing Downwards Arrow

The fridge compartment is warming to reach 4˚C. This is a normal process as the fridge works to maintain an optimal temperature. No action is required unless the temperature fails to stabilize.

Flashing Upwards Arrow

The fridge compartment is cooling to reach 4˚C. Allow the fridge time to reach the desired temperature. Ensure the door is closed properly and avoid placing hot items inside.

Buzzer Sounding

High Temperature warning symbol is activated. Press the cancel button to silence the buzzer. Check if the fridge freezer was recently installed, loaded with a large quantity of food, or if the doors are closed properly. The symbol will go out when the temperature normalizes.

Installation and Placement

It's important to position the Hotpoint FFA91 and FFM91 fridge freezer away from heat sources such as cookers and radiators. Ensure there's a 100mm (4 inch) gap above for ventilation. This placement helps prolong the appliance's lifespan, minimizes condensation, and reduces operating noise.

Safety Precautions

Do not store poisonous, flammable, or dangerous substances in the fridge freezer. Avoid using aerosol sprays for cleaning or defrosting. Always ensure the mains cable is not trapped under or behind the appliance during installation or movement.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning is advised to keep the fridge freezer in optimal condition. Before cleaning, switch off the power supply and unplug the appliance. Clean the interior with mild detergent and warm water, ensuring all parts are dry before plugging back in.

Holiday Mode

To save energy while away, set the fridge compartment to a warmer setting without affecting the freezer. Remove perishables from the fridge to prevent spoilage.

Door Space and Accessibility

Ensure there is a 600mm (24 inch) space in front of the fridge freezer to open the door fully. If positioned next to a unit, a 30mm (1¼ inch) gap is advisable at the hinge side for easy furniture removal.

Temperature Control

The fridge compartment should be set to 4°C. If the temperature drifts, arrows will indicate whether the compartment is warming or cooling. No arrows mean the compartment is at the desired temperature. Use a fridge freezer thermometer for accurate readings, but avoid mercury-filled thermometers to prevent health hazards if broken.

Troubleshooting

If the fridge freezer is not operating, check that the plug is firmly in the socket and the power supply is on. Refer to the troubleshooting section if issues persist after these checks.

Fast Freeze Function

For freezing fresh food, activate the Fast Freeze feature by pressing the switch 24 hours prior to placing the food inside. This ensures optimal freezing conditions and food preservation.

Warranty and Service

The appliance includes a 12-month parts and labor guarantee. A further 5-year free parts guarantee is available if repairs are carried out by Hotpoint engineers. Service options are available post-guarantee from Hotpoint's extensive repair network.
