Quick setup

Follow these easy steps to get your Hotpoint RLA50 Refrigerator up and running in no time.

1

Choose Location

Select a location for your fridge away from heat sources like cookers and radiators. Ensure there is at least a 30mm (1 1/4 inch) gap above the fridge for ventilation.

2

Position the Fridge

Move the fridge to its final location using the sides of the cabinet. Be careful to avoid damaging the refrigerant circuit pipework on the rear of the appliance.

3

Allow Settling Time

Once in position, leave the fridge standing for at least 15 minutes before plugging in and switching on. This allows the refrigerant to settle.

Perfect Pair!

The Hotpoint RLA50 can be combined with equal height Hotpoint 'FUTURE' freezers to create a seamless look in your kitchen. It's like having a custom-made double fridge!

Listen to the Music

Your fridge might surprise you with a cracking noise from time to time. Don't worry, it's just the parts expanding and contracting as they change temperature rapidly. A quirky symphony of freshness!

Troubleshooting

The Hotpoint RLA50 Refrigerator has some known problems that occur often. Here are some easy to do solutions for the problems or error codes your Hotpoint might be giving you.

Fridge light not working

The interior light of the fridge is not illuminating. Switch off the electricity supply and pull out the mains plug. Check if the bulb is screwed in correctly. If the bulb is still not working, refer to 'Changing the Light Bulb' in the Cleaning & Maintenance section.

Rapid ice build-up

Ice is accumulating quickly inside the fridge. Ensure that nothing is obstructing the door from closing properly.

Water beneath the salad bin

There is water collecting beneath the salad bin and on the floor. Check if the defrost gutter drain hole is covered or blocked, and refer to 'Cleaning' in the Cleaning & Maintenance section. Also, ensure nothing is in contact with the interior back wall of the fridge.

Installation Location & Air Circulation

Locate your fridge away from sources of heat, such as cookers, radiators, and direct sunlight, as extreme temperatures will affect its performance. Ensure a minimum 100mm (4 inches) gap between the top of the fridge and the ceiling or underside of a wall cupboard for proper ventilation.

Temperature Control

The setting of the control wheel depends on the fridge's location, room temperature, and how often the door is opened. The normal set point (marked by a 3 and N on the dial) is usually suitable. Adjust the temperature by turning the control wheel clockwise for colder and anti-clockwise for warmer settings.

Safety Precautions

Install the fridge following the instructions and ensure ventilation openings are clear. Avoid damaging the pipes on the rear. Do not use mechanical or electrical devices inside the fridge for manual defrosting.

Door Handle Reversal

For reversing the door handles, ensure the doors are off the product and follow the specific instructions provided. This allows customization according to your space requirements.

Initial Setup

Before plugging in and switching on, leave the fridge standing in its final location for at least 15 minutes to allow it to settle. This helps ensure reliable and efficient operation.

Operating Sounds

Your fridge may produce sounds such as a buzzing or humming noise from the motor (compressor) when it is running. This can be louder when it is first switched on.

Service & Guarantee

Hotpoint offers a fully inclusive parts and labor guarantee for the first 12 months, with free replacement parts for the first 5 years when fitted by a Hotpoint engineer. After the initial 12 months, various service options are available.

Defrosting

The fridge compartment defrosts automatically. During defrost periods, water droplets form on the interior back wall and refreeze afterward. No manual defrosting is required.

Maintenance

Check out our tips to prevent many common issues and extend the life of your Hotpoint Refrigerator.

Choose the Right Location

Place your Hotpoint RLA50 Refrigerator away from heat sources like cookers and radiators. Ensure there is a minimum gap of 100mm (4 inches) between the top of the fridge and any overhead structures to allow for adequate ventilation.

Ensure Proper Ventilation

Maintain a 30mm (1 1/4 inch) gap above the fridge to facilitate airflow. This will help the appliance to run efficiently and prolong its lifespan.

Avoid Damage During Installation

Take care when installing or moving the fridge to avoid damaging the pipes on the rear. Ensure the mains cable is not trapped underneath or behind the fridge.

Check Electrical Connections

Verify that the plug is firmly positioned in the socket outlet and that the power supply is switched on. If the fridge does not work, check the power supply with another appliance or inspect the fuse/circuit breaker.

Maintain Cleanliness

Use a clean, soft cloth wrung out in warm water and washing up liquid to wipe the exterior surface, then dry thoroughly. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dust from underneath the fridge and from the compressor and condenser at the back.
